Music On A Web Page

On a lark, I decided to fool with voice/music on a web page. Finding numerous examples of bad etiquette regarding 'forcing' a viewer to listen to something he or she didn't want. Numerous attempts were made before finally finding something that could be "lived with."

Next I had to find something inherent to use my discoveries on. Most of you are probably TV buffs, as am I. Looking for a few themes songs, I ran across a marvelous site (see link below) having every imaginable theme song you could think of. My choices were actually shows I had personally watched and enjoyed; yes even "My Mother the Car" which was a Neilson flop.

During this time of capturing images there was a nation-wide controversy about copyright infringement. The government decided that if you could right click/ save image, that image was 'Public Domain'. Also, I contacted the Executive Offices of CBS, then the copyright owner of thousands of of these images. The offices of Kelly Kahl (President of Entertainment) was well aware of copyright issues, yet her office (unknown person) verbally gave me permission to use images as long as nobody complained and my usage was personal and there were no monies gained by my usage. It was also recommended to remove said images if and when I was told differently.

That occasion has arrived, but in a very disturbing way. On Monday, March 28, 2021, there was a legal looking document addressed only to JRB delivered to my address demanding removal of numerous images as well as charging a large monetary amount for restitution for using images without a written license from Associated Press, whom they (PicRights.com) were representing. First: no name appeared on envelope or document. Could this be some kind of scam? No more than a cursory exam of the webpage would have obtained my full name. Second: Of the many images I was using, only five were referenced in the document and these images were part of the first two years of that TV series and there was no copyright law in force for these 50+ episodes. Third: whether scam or not, I had promised to remove the images if there was any controversy regarding them. All images are removed. However, no remuneration will be forthcoming.
